Watermelon DIET

Greece, Watermelon Cleanse and self-discovery

I find myself constantly on the road since I joined forces with "The Roving
Ambassador" promoting Luxury resorts.
Besides that...I am always at events, socializing with friends, and going to dinners of all sorts.
(YES I LOVE FOOD #FOODIE)
One doesn't realize what strain this puts on the body, besides the regular hangover. Lol

Leaving Greece after a week of festivities and 2 weeks in London, I decided to venture to a quiet Island for 3 days on a trip of detox and self-discovery...

I tweeted to ask for a suited island and PAROS came up.

Within a day I changed my return flight to Cape Town and jumped on a ferry to Paros.

The purpose of all of this?

THE DETOX!!! :
I came across an interesting 3 days cleanse... A watermelon cleanse.
With all the fresh produce on Paros I found it ideal to try out.
Not to mention the great scenery, warm ocean, summer, beaches, churches and hiking spots to occupy the mind during the detox.

I am on day 3 today and have woken up with all the energy in the world!!!

The headaches are painful but definitely all worth it!

I feel I have to share this, it is really not that hard as you fill up on watermelon and stay hydrated throughout.

It's the best thing I've done in ages. Physically, emotionally and spiritually.

You can do this wherever there is a supply of watermelon.

I find it easier being on my own in Paros as i don't have the temptation of the social events and all my amazing friends in CPT distracting me from the detox.
P.S Reading a good book helps too...
YOU BASICALLY EAT WATERMELON, DRINK WATER FOR 3 DAYS STRAIGHT :)
If watermelon is out of season, opt for winter melon/ honeydew melon.

THE DETOX:

A good  way to cleanse your colon, kidneys, liver and detox your whole system is with this very simple 3 day watermelon detox-cleanse. No special herbs needed, no extra supplements of any kind, just 3 large watermelons averaging 5kg each

You will need 3 large watermelons with seeds. Do not buy the seedless kind.

You can freeze part of the watermelon to make a natural watermelon slushie with if you grow tired of eating just watermelon and yes you can use sea salt on the watermelon.  Try to eat as many of the seeds as possible, as this is good for your kidneys.

Note: The best way to do this cleanse is with room temperature watermelon as this is the sweetest and most natural state.
You can freeze part or continue to eat throughout the day.  You must eat the entire watermelon before sleeping.
On the second day you will continue the same procedure and plan on going to the bathroom ALLOT!  You can safely do this cleanse on a workday, as you will not be sick.  On the 3rd day you will continue to cleanse with the remaining watermelon you have left.
On the 4th day, you want to begin eating slowly with soups, fruits, and fresh salads.  Do not immediately eat regular food and allow your stomach to relax.  This simple detox is best done 2 or 3 times a year.

NOTE: If you have a blood sugar imbalance, you need to use the Watermelon Salad throughout the day, as an addition to your regular meal plan or diet, not just watermelon.

Watermelon Salad Cut up a portion of the watermelon and set it aside. Add in some Romaine lettuce, small spinach leaves, green onions, cilantro, and iceberg lettuce
Take a large cucumber and slice them in circles. Next, add in some chopped green onions and cilantro. Slice up an avocado and then toss the greens with some olive oil, salt, and pepper. Add this to the watermelon chunks and enjoy.
Do not buy pre-cut watermelon, as it may have lost some of its’ potency and has been refrigerated.

NOTES FROM PROFESSIONALS AND FACTS ON WATERMELON:

"The cooling qualities of watermelon make it ideal for a quick and easy 3-Day Summer Detox. Cleansing with watermelon is easy to do, delicious, and extremely effective. The watermelon is a whole-body cleanser. It has positive effects on the kidney, bladder, heart, stomach, colon, liver, and more! I especially emphasize the benefits derived from this cleanse on the kidneys. I have observed through a test that I run for my patients that the kidneys are under tremendous strain. They may in fact be losing their effective ability to clear toxins in many individuals. Why? Protein, alcohol, and caffeine all put a strain on the kidney. High protein diets are still common in many patients I work with, as is the regular consumption of alcohol and caffeinated beverages."

INFO ON THE WATERMELON:

Nutritional Content

Watermelon is actually a low-calorie vegetable -- not a fruit -- with a sweet taste. A single wedge, or one-sixteenth of a full melon, only has about 91.5 calories. By weight, watermelon is 92 percent water; the rest is mostly sugar. But besides sugar, a watermelon wedge also contains 1.4 g of fibre, an indigestible component of plant cells that promotes healthy and proper digestion. Watermelon is high in lycopene, vitamin A and vitamin C.

Benefits

According to Dr. Ariel Policano, a naturopathic physician, watermelon helps the liver process ammonia -- a toxic nitrogen-containing waste product left over from amino acid metabolism -- and convert it into a molecule known as urea, a component of urine that is safely excreted from the body. However, you should also be aware of the skepticism about detox diets in many scientific and nutritional circles. Dr. Paul Illing, a registered toxicologist and fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry states, "Your natural bodily functions are effective at clearing out harmful substances, and there is little you can do to enhance these."

Variations

It's possible to prepare watermelon in a number of different ways. You can use juice alone, separate from the pulp. You can place the watermelon in a blender and make a smoothie with lemon, ginger, or herbs. Or you can simply consume it whole with or without seeds. The good thing about watermelons is that every part of the flesh, rind, and seeds will confer some benefit; however, some of the harder parts may first need to be turned into juice for consumption. Overall, it's a good idea to create a varied diet with as many recipes as possible.
